Troubleshooting Connection Issues
Last updated:
If Obscura struggles to connect or a website blocks you, the steps below can help.
Enable TCP/TLS Tunnelling
Section titled “Enable TCP/TLS Tunnelling”If Obscura has worked before, and you’re on a new network or one with strict firewall settings, the network may be blocking UDP traffic. Obscura’s tunnel uses QUIC (which is UDP-based) by default. Switching to a TCP/TLS tunnel routes the tunnel over TCP instead, which most networks allow.
-
Open the Obscura app
-
Navigate to the Settings tab
-
Open Experimental
-
Enable Use TCP/TLS tunnel
Disable Firewalls/Other VPNs
Section titled “Disable Firewalls/Other VPNs”If Obscura is failing to connect, it may be because you have another app interfering with your Obscura connection.
We recommend disabling firewalls or other VPNs on your device if you can’t connect to Obscura.
Rotate Your WireGuard Key
Section titled “Rotate Your WireGuard Key”Rotating your WireGuard key issues you a new Mullvad profile, which may give you a new IP address. This can help if a website is blocking you based on your current IP.
-
Open the Obscura app
-
Navigate to the Settings tab
-
Under Network, click Rotate WireGuard® key
